To use voice dictation, do the following:
1. – When entering texts on any iPhone feature or Apps (for example Apple Notes), the operating system will bring up the iOS keyboard.
2. – Using voice dictation is very easy; you only need to tap the microphone button on the keyboard and start speaking. Simple as that.
3. – As you speak, the text appears on the screen. To finish, tap the keyboard button.
4 – You can change the dictation language by long-pressing the microphone button, and then select the language you want to use. However, take into consideration that Apple’s voice dictation does not support all languages.
Replace Specific Sections
One neat feature of voice dictation is the ability to replace a specific section, very useful when you make mistakes as you order your thoughts. To substitute a word or sentence, select it, tap the microphone icon and speak. You can also add more text by tapping where you want to and then speaking again.
Punctuation
Since you are speaking and not typing, if you want punctuation, you will need to include them with your voice. For example, you can say, “Hi Charlotte comma, did you check the email I sent you interrogation mark.” As dictation converts audio to text, that will become “Hi Charlotte, did you check the email I sent you interrogation mark?
Apple support has a useful list of formatting voice commands that you can use with dictation, such as:
- “Quote/end quote.”
- “New paragraph.”
- “New line.”
- “Cap” (To capitalize the next word).
Convert Audio to Text Using Whatsapp on an iPhone
Like many messaging apps, WhatsApp allows you to send voice messages. That is, instead of typing, you record and send audio.
The audio messages feature of WhatsApp is very convenient. But, what would happen if, for some reason, the receiving person can’t listen to the audio? For example, if he or she is in a meeting, located in an area with bad signal or some other reason. It could take hours for this person to listen to the message and follow up with you.
Fortunately, the iPhone’s voice dictation feature also works with WhatsApp. Since voice dictation is a feature of the iPhone operating system (iOS), you don’t need to install any additional apps.
To use it, first tap on the new message field on WhatsApp, this will bring the iPhone’s keyboard.

Convert Audio to Text Using Evernote on an iPhone
Evernote is a leading App to register and organize notes on smartphones and personal computers in all kinds of situations. The easiest way to create a note is by using your voice. However, Evernote doesn’t allow you to convert audio to text automatically.
You can use the iPhone voice dictation to create notes on the App. Since on Evernote, you create notes with the iOS device keyboard; what you need to do is tap on the microphone while creating the note.
Speak in the same manner described in the previous section. As you talk, your iPhone device will type the words on Evernote.
Audio to Text on an iPad
The newer iPads models offer a voice dictation option where you can speak your words instead of typing. The function is very similar to the one included with iPhones 6s and newer since they both work with the iOS operating system.
Just like you would do with an iPhone when the feature is enabled, you can start voice typing by pressing the microphone icon.
You can use voice dictation on any OS function and App that works with the iOS keyboard.
